Assigned to 351FS, 353FG, 8AF USAAF. Became squadron C/O after Lt Col Frederick H Lefebre. Compton was a squadron ace with 5 x kills, including the first of two ME262 aerial victories downed on 22 Feb 45 and a second one on 10-Apr-45. Made an emergency landing at Metfield after losing power on a local test flight in P-47D 42-75702 28-Feb-44. RTD May 1944 after recovering from crash burns and head injury at the 65th General Hospital at Redgrave Park, Suffolk, England. Ended Tour of Duty (ETD).
