Edwin transferred from Crew #17 to Crew #16 to replace gunners who while on an operational mission to Cherbourg, FR on 21 Jan 1944 in B-24H #41-29208 a target marker went off in the a/c forcing four gunners to bail out and become prisoners of War (POW).
