Radio Operator, Rayburn Crew. 381st BG, 534th BS, 8th AF. Shot down April 19, 1944 in B-17 #42-38004 "Ol' Man Tucker". Mission #94 to the airfield at Eschwege, Germany. MACR 4052. Killed in Action.



S/Sgt Peterson was leaving the radio room to assist with the wounded waist gunner, DeForest E. Main. He stopped to go back for his parachute as the plane broke in half. "Pete" fell out of the aircraft. After being captured, the Germans had S/Sgt DeForest Main and T/Sgt William Purser witness S/Sgt Petersons body laying in a field.
