Glen William Underwood
MilitaryLt. Glen Underwood was the pilot of the B-24D, 41-11921, Northern Star, and, later,
named, Doc. It was temporarily detached to the 9th Air Force, the 98th Bomb Group, and the 343rd Bomb Squadron for Operation Tidal Wave, the large bombing mission to destroy the oil refineries at Ploesti, Romania, in early 1943. The aircraft successfully bombed it's target and returned safely to Benghazi, Libya, despite being intercepted by enemy fighters over Bulgaria. 1 Aug 43.
Glen Underwood was honorably discharged from the USAAF on 19 Oct 1945. He died on 21 Dec 1998.
