Military36 combat missions July to December 1944. Shot down, crew bailed out 8 August 1944, landed on our side of the front line. Tail gunner Killed in Action (KIA). Returned January 1945 to USA. Spent rest of time in Ferry Command flying P-51 and P-47 aircraft to depots from manufacturing locations.
He was in 1998 president of the 398th BG Memorial Association.
Tail shot off plane by flak. Landed within friendly lines and entire crew; with the exception of Sergeant Charles Simons, Tail Gunnor who was blown out of the tail and was reported Missing in Action (MIA); landed safely and have returned to base.
