On Sept 16th 1943 was shot down on plane called 'Old Battle Axe' but returned to base. 10/14/43 on return from Schweinfurt mission, with B-17#42-3037 'Windy City Avenger' abandoned near Corby. Crew returned.
In July 1944 was Killed in Action (KIA). Shot down by flak and crashed near Neuried on 16 July 1944 in B-17 'Miss Fitt' #42-107064. His body was the only one found inside the plane.
