Military ROLL OF HONOURThis is a photo of Captain Dana Elson Gary from the book that his brother Harold Glenn Gary published titled "Letters from Dan" which was a compilation of the letters that his brother Dana "Dan" wrote home to his mother.
Capt. Dana Gary was a B-17 command pilot assigned to the 570th Bomb Squadron, the 390th Bomb Group, in the 8th Air Force, USAAF, Crew Number 59. He flew on 25 combat missions before he was killed in combat. Capt. Gary Failed to Return (FTR) and was Killed In Action (KIA) with his entire crew, on a mission to Merseburg, Germany in the B-17G, 44-8080, The Saint. His aircraft was hit by flak and collided with the B-17G, As-Te-Risk, 42-97407. The subsequent mid air collision with, 42-97407, sealed his fate. 10 KIA. 30-Nov-44. MACR 11131
