Benjamin Beauclair was Co-Pilot of B-17 "Skunkface" #42-29656 of 91st Bomb Group/322nd Bomb Squadron, shot down by fighters on a mission to Leipzig on 20 February 1944. Crashed behind the railway station at Lens, NNW of Mons, Belgium. Hit in the leg and chest during the fighter attack. First sent to a hospital in Mons, he was later transferred to another one in Brussels on 28 February 1944, together with Left Waist Gunner Sgt Ramsey and Ball Turret Gunner Sgt Rex Wertman. Was witness to the death of Wertman during or right after riding in the ambulance driving them there. Prisoner of War (POW) - Stalag Luft 1, Barth, Germany.
