Donald S Courson

Military

Flak knocked out two engines of B-17G #42-40006 'Liberty Lady' over the target of Berlin on 6 Mar 1944 and the crew headed toward Sweden and landed on the island of Gotland. Interned. Courson and radio operator T/Sergeant Victor R. Marcotte were taken to Malmo, Sweden where they were put to work repairing crippled American airplanes, while pilot 1st Lt. C. W. Smith and copilot 1st Lt. Merle P. Brown were sent back to England. Courson remained in Malmo, Sweden for 18 months.
