David Howard Grisham

B-24H 42-7578 'Hula Wahine' lost all superchargers on return from mission to Frankfurt on 29 Jan 1944 and was forced to make a wheels up landing at RAF Detling. RTD.



1st Lieut. Grisham served as co-pilot with 704th Sqdn 446th BG based at Flixton in Norfolk. Returning from a mission over Germany in January 1944 his aircraft 'Hula Wahine' was repeatedly attacked by enemy fighters and eventually forced to fly at a height of some 75ft over Belgium. They crash-landed at RAF with two wounded crew members on board.



Grisham completed his tour with the 446th and stayed on in the Air Force to fly with the 18th Fighter Bomber Group in the Korean War. Piloting an F-51 on 3rd September 1950 he disappeared in heavy cloud and was reported as MIA. No trace of Grisham or his aircraft were ever discovered.
