Was on board 42-38159 which was shot down over Merseberg on 21st November but limped back on one engine to Belgium and all parachuted to safety. Aircraft pancaked, crewless, into a field and was repaired and recovered back to England

 

Awards: DFC, AM (5OLC), Bronze Star Medal, UN and Korean medals, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, EAME (2BS), WWII Victory.

Post war: Remained in USAF, serving in Korean and Vietnam conflicts rising to rank of Major.
