Virginia was born on October 1, 1917, in Lansing, Michigan the daughter of Robert E. and Adelaide Swan Longyear. She was a graduate of Centennial High School in Lansing, Michigan and attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. She served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp and was stationed in Bristol, England, Cherbourg, France, Liege, Belgium. She was a registered nurse for the Arthur Nursing Home, Arthur, IL. She was a homemaker, and belonged to the Lovington United Methodist Church, past member of the Church Board of Trustees, Lovington Unit of the Moultrie County Home Extension, American Legion 429 Auxiliary, Lovington, VFW Arthur-Lovington Post 11456. She was active in the Lovington Women's Club, PTA and Moultrie County Extension Board. She served as a cub scout leader, girl scout leader and 4-H leader for many years. She married Raymond Binder on February 20, 1948, in Lansing, MI. |
