Kansas City, Missouri 17 October 2013 Roy L. Burns, 94, of Liberty, MO, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Garden Village Nursing Center, in Kansas City, MO. A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 21, at Vaughn Funeral Home in Weston, MO; followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service, at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Weston. The family suggests contributions be given to the American Cancer Society. Roy was born June 13, 1919 in Dearborn, to Samuel Roy and Ethel Mae (Doyle) Burns. He was a 1937 graduate of the Dearborn High School, later earning a degree in accounting from the St. Joseph Business College. Roy served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a member of the 416th Bomb group, and 669th Squadron ground group, equipping B-26 bombers in Germany, France, and England. He returned home, residing in Liberty, MO, where he remained for the majority of his life. Roy worked as an accountant for Cooper Jarrett Trucking, and later for the Smithville and Liberty hospitals. He married Ruby Irene Roberts on March 29, 1941 in St. Joseph. He was a member of the St. Luke's Presbyterian Church of Kansas City, MO.
