MilitaryEnlisted in the United States Army Air Forces on 20 March 1943. Trained at Thunderbird Field in Fort Worth, Texas, before serving as a ball turret gunner on a Consolidated B-24 Liberator. Taken as a prisoner of war in October 1944. Remained in Stalag 17-B until the camp's liberation on 3 May 1945.
