Neville Charles Benson

Military

SSgt. Neville C. Bensen took part in Operation Tidal Wave, the raid on Ploesti on 1 August 1943. He was a waist gunner in the Element Lead B-24D Liberator, 41-11825, Hail Columbia, piloted by Col. John R. "Killer" Kane and Lt. John S. Young. He survived the Ploesti mission and the crash landing at Nicosia, Cyprus after the mission, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions over Ploesti. August 1, 1943
