Object Number - UPL 40488 - Glenn J. Rhodes Jr.

Shot down on B-17 41-24342 'Stinky Jr' on 7 September 1943, on a mission to Foggia, Italy. The aircraft received a direct flak hit, which tore the wing off. The aircraft exploded, but Rhodes survived the crash and was taken as a Prisoner of War at Stalag Luft I.

My father, Glenn J. Rhodes, and his crew were given B-17 Stinky Jr., after his CO tore out the landing gear of the new B-17 he brought over from Salina, Kansas in June of 1943. He and his crew refurbished Stinky Jr. with more guns and armor and fell in love with her. She had 70 missions on her when they got her, and they put 27 more on her, and were shot down during the aircraft's 97th mission.

Awards: AM (2OLC), PH, POW, WWII Victory, EAME.
