Corrected flight engineer's name.
I didn't know Richard and just found him doing genealogy on my great aunt the other day. He was born 2 February 1924 in Frankfort, Spink County, South Dakota USA. His father was Harry Finley Halstead, and his mother was Estella Josehine Ridinger who died when Richard was only 12. He had two sisters: Helen Jean who was 2-1/2 years older; and Elizabeth Jane who was 2 years younger.
He joined the Army Air Corps Reserves on 1 Dec 1943 at Buckley Field in Denver, Colorado USA. His enlistment papers shows that he had 4 years of high school, his civil occupation was "machinists" and he was single without dependents. After the war Richard married Elizabeth Hallauer on 24 November 1950 in Watertown, Codington, South Dakota USA. Wish I had more information to share.
