Stanley Dwyer, a graduate of Glasco High School and Kansas State College, enlisted in December 1941 and first served in the Signal Corps. He received his wings and commission as a 2nd Lieutenant at the Marfa Army Air Forces Flying School, Texas on 28 July 1943. Assigned to the 463rd Bomb Group / 775th Bomb Squadron (15th Air Force) in Italy, he flew on many missions. Shot down by Flak on the 10 May 1944 mission to the Wiener Neustadt aircraft factory, Austria, flying as Pilot of B-17 # 42-31685. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR4660. Killed In Action – Still listed as MIA (Missing In Action) at http://www.dpaa.mil/OurMissing/WorldWarII/wwii_main.aspx?br=aaf&a=d. His niece, Kay Hughes, with contributions by Stanley’s brother Harold E. Dwyer, himself a WWII USAAF veteran combat pilot, wrote a book about her Uncle : "Searching for Stanley - Unforgotten Hero of World War II" (first published in 2011 - new edition in 2013 by Dime Publishing LLC, Omaha, Nebraska.)
