Sam Anderson Barron

Sam Barron worked as a carpenter before the war and enlisted in August 1942. He served as a gunner with the 305th Bomb Group.
He was Killed in Action on 26 July 1943 in B-17 42-30282 when the aircraft came under intense enemy fire and crashed into the North Sea. He was wounded in the leg and side early in the mission and had been hit several times and remained at his gun position until fatally hit just as they hit the water and was in the ditching position in the radio compartment with other crew members, he said that he was wounded and not to forget to help him out. He was lying on the radio floor in the ditching position when a German fighter strafed them above and hit him down the middle starting from his head on down and he was dead when they hit the water. Remains not found.
