Zagan, Poland 15 August 1943 Stalag Luft III Promoted to First Lieutenant on 20 March 1943 per 547th Bomb Squadron Unit History. As a POW, he was transferred to a hospital in Poland, due to some severe mental or physical problems that he experienced at Stalag Luft III, and was subsequetly repatriated on the Swedish vessel Gripsholm in June or July of 1944.
