France | 11 February 1944 - 15 May 1944 | Evaded capture with the help of French citizens and members of the Résistance. After landing near Bry, 5 miles East of Valenciennes, France, he was fed, clothed, sheltered and transported to various places in the country: Gommegnies, Sebourg, Valenciennes, Lille, Tourcoing. Led from there to Paris, he later left by train to Toulouse and ultimately crossed the Pyrénées mountains on foot, arriving in Spain at the beginning of May 1944. He reached Gibraltar on 12 May, left Gibraltar by air on the 14th and landed at Bristol, England on 15 May 1944. |
