Pugh had recently been named CO of the 327th Bomb Sqn. Operational mission to Solingen in B-17F 42-30408 'Sharon Belle', mission was scrubbed due to weather, A/C was seen to explode at the nose, crashed near Astwell Castle with all crew lost, including Pugh, 30-Nov-43. Killed in Action (KIA).
