Maxey Spencer, of Kinmundy, Illinois, enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 1, 1941, reporting to Camp Grant, near Rockford, Illinois. He was sent to Old Buckenham Air Base in England, flying 35 missions in B-24 Liberators from September 1944 through March 1945, with his last mission over Berlin. Most of his missions were flown in the Gypsy Queen. He was honorably discharged on June 11, 1945.
