My dad believed that the US should have entered into the war effort prior to Pearl Harbor Day and hence volunteered first with the Canadian Air Force, and then was transferred to the Royal Air Force, stationed in Debden. He was later transferred to the USAAF after the US joined the war and was stationed at the Dover (Delaware) Air Force Base, where he met his future wife, Phyllis Johnson Bishop.
