John C Engeman
MilitaryAttacked by fighters on a mission to Brunswick, GR on 23 Mar 1944, B-17G 42-39985 crashed SE of Hamelin, GR after the crew baled out. Prisoner of War (POW).
John C. Engeman, was a gunner on the "Duchess of Fubar". After parachuting out of the burning plane, he landed in a tree in an area being worked by lumberman. He was held there by the workers until the German soldiers came and got him. He spent the rest of the war in a Stalag being liberated by Pattons Army in 1945.
