John C. Gonda, first officer and navigator, won the Air Medal for meritorious service after bringing back the Flying Fortress named the Reluctant Dragon along with his crew with two engines lost to flak bursts and 43 holes in the fuselage and wings. The crew kept the bomber in formation and did not lag behind its group.
