Xmas Day, 1943 Dunmow.
386th Bomber Squadron gave an impromptu Xmas party to Dunmow children.
My father, 7 yrs old, Patrick Simmonds is in the foreground, hand on hip
His younger brother, Robin, is being lifted down, and his older sister, Margaret Simmonds Bruneau is right behind him, her head is right above the Serviceman's head, centre foreground.
The Squadron gave the children an orange. That was the first time my father had ever tasted one. He never forgot the taste, or sensation of it squirting, as he bit into the fruit.
He told me that the Prisoners of War played football and apparently he played along with them.
