The fire-extinguisher coated remains of a 62nd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group P-47D Thunderbolt (serial number 42-7866) that crashed on the 5th of September 1943 due to a sudden fault with the propeller controls. A wing was severed in the crash, flipped over and near the main crash site. Official caption on image: "GAD-48-5-F365 (Sept 5 '43) Crash Damage - P-47D - 42-7866."
