IMAGEA P-47 Thunderbolt of the 86th Fighter Group releases its bombs over an enemy target. Printed caption on reverse: '72298 AC- "Rover Joe"- a ground air tactical method used for Mediterranean Allied Air Forces to coordinate fighter-bombers and infantry action in the mountain approached, "Rover Joes" (usually former pilots) spot enemy targets and by radio, relay locations to MAAF fighter-bombers who knock them out. Here, the flight leader or four Thunderbombers releases his bombs on another of "Rover Joes" targets.
