Captain C P London of the 78th Fighter Group is awarded the Distinguished Service Cross by Air Marshall Leigh Mallory, 15 October 1943 Passed as censored 21 Oct 1943. Printed caption on reverse: 'ETO-HQ-43. 7439. Neuman - 15 Oct 1943. Capt. C.P. London, First American Ace in the ETO, received the Distinguished Service Cross from Air Marshall Leigh-Mallory. Capt. London is officially credited with shooting down five planes on 50 missions. He has previously been presented the Air Medal and three Leaf Clusters. His home is Long Beach, California. Middlesex [obscured], England.' On reverse: Confidential, Ministry of Information, US Army Press Censor ETO and US Army General Section Press & Censorship Bureau [Stamps].
