Whitney Haskell was one of four survivors of the Bam Bam explosion. The three other survivors were Earl Metko, Harry Chapple and Wayne Humphries.

Pete Contos was part of the original crew but was not on the final flight.

Whitney and his wife visited three other surviving crew members Harry Chapple, Pete Contos & Wayne Humphries forty years after WWII in Texas, Florida, & Idaho, respectively. They called it 'A great dream come true!'

His daughter Jan remembers:

"Our family got them back to England in the 80's. They had a wonderful tour with an English serviceman, visited the cemetery, went sightseeing etc. Mom and Dad were engaged during war time. They wanted to see the area, pay their respects and he showed her places they wrote about during the war. Mom and Dad then took different trips to share their pictures and stories with Harry, Wayne and Pete. Dad said it made his life come full circle. I am so glad they did this when they did as Dad passed in 1991. By the way, The Fox (local pub) was still in operation and I have found out it is still today!"

DFC/ AM/ Caterpillar pin/ PH never received/ WWII Victory

He never received his Purple Heart medal although he sustained a laceration to his head and was blown unconscious by the explosion.
