He entered the service on 11 February 1942 from Fort MacArthur, San Pedro, California. He enlisted as a Private; he had four years of high school education, was married and his civilian occupation was listed as: "Skilled meat cutters, except in slaughtering and packing houses".

We have Lieutenant Maidment listed on the 437th TCG Special Orders #195, dated 27 December 1943. These were the orders generated at Pope Field (Fort Bragg, NC) for the first phase of movement by air and by rail of the 437th personnel to their eventual overseas deployment.

We also have him listed on Missing Aircrew Report (MACR ) #10251, which detailed the loss of Lt Col Ralph Lehr's ship during the MARKET Mission, as the 86th TCS Adjutant.
