Wendell Augustus Briner
MilitaryHe registered for the WW II draft on 16 October 1940, and he was listed as a student at Visalia Junior College. He was 5' 5 1/2" tall; weighed 135 pounds; had brown hair, hazel eyes and a 'light complexion'. Interestingly, his registration was signed by his mother, who was Registrar for Maple Grove, Hanford, California.
He entered the service on 20 January 1942 from Fresno, California. He enlisted as a Private in the Air Corps; he had two years of college education, was single, without dependents and his civilian occupation was listed as: "Actors and actresses".
We have him listed as participating in one 437th flight during Mission Detroit in June 1944 as a Glider Co-Pilot. The National WW II Glider Pilots Association site indicates that he also participated in Operation DRAGOON and Operation MARKET-GARDEN.
