When the war ended in Europe, Robert and others not seeking discharge from the military at that time, had the opportunity to remain in Europe for up to three, three month periods. Robert agreed to stay for nine months. He was transferred to the Ninth Air Force and assigned to the 86th Fighter Group which had been transferred to Schweinfurt, Germany.
