Robert enlisted in March 1941, he was at Mechanics School in Chanute Field on 7th December 1941. Deployed in England in August 1943 he eventually joined the Group at Debach. Later he recalled Buzz bombs were a constant threat ' coming over all the time between 5 and 11 pm.' He returned to the States in August 1945 and went back to college. After graduation he served as Deputy City Assessor in Texas for 19 years and 13 as combined City and County Assessor.
