Joined RCAF 11/14/41. Received wings and Commission on 19th birthday Oct 1942. Immediately sent to England, flew Miles Masters and Hurricanes until transferred to USAAF as a 1st Lt. 7/14/43. Checked out in P-47s at Shrewsbury, Eng. Arrived at Martlesham Heath 11/12/43 by train & truck. Finished 1st tour 5/11/44, home for 30 days leave, so I missed D-Day, returned to MH 8/3/44 as SQ OPS officer. Appointed Sq. Co. (temp) 10-11/44 and assigned C. O. 11/24/44. Shot down by ground fire 2/25/45 in A/C #44-15271. Evaded a week then captured, released from prison camp 3 Apr 45. Arrived home on 60 days leave on 1 May. Met my future wife 2 May. Resigned my commission as a Major on 31 July 1945. Got married on 18 Aug and started college 1 Sept. Turned 22 on 22 Oct 45.
