489TH - RALPH BELWARD, CO-PILOT, 846TH : PHOTO 1942
One mission to Germany over France we were at 23,000 ft and were caught in B-17 air turbulance and our right wing stalled out causing us to nearly rollover on our back. John Van Winkle (Rip) and I were both busier than a cat on a tin roof. We successfully righted the aircraft and did not lose our position in the formation
