MilitaryOn November 5, 1943 in P-47C 41-6583 [YJ:K], "Alyce", 353FG/351FS his aircraft was shot down by German fighters while escorting B-17s from 3rd BD that were attacking Gelsenkirchen, Germany. He baled out and was captured as a POW and spent months in hospital at Bergen op Zoom, Holland until he was sent to Dulag Luft at Gross-Tychow, Prussia (now Poland)
