Kermit Neubauer
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Kermit enlisted in July 1943 and trained as a tail gunner which entailed crawling on hands and knees to the tail section of the aircraft and sitting on a 'bicycle- styled' seat with his knees and feet bent behind him for almost the entire mission. Assigned to the 94th at Rougham he was given a bed in a barracks which housed 32 men. He flew on 32 missions - on two successive missions the tail section of the plane was badly damaged but - fortunately - he was not hurt.
