MilitaryPrisoner of War (POW) 11 December 1943 B17 42-31098 'Penny's Thunderhead' was hit by flak over the target and attacked by fighters. 4 crew bailed out over Holland and 3 near Frisian Isles thinking the aircraft was doomed. The Kaufmann and Bombardier Fitzgerald stayed with it landing at RAF Lindholm. 2RTD 2 Prisoner of War (POW), 6 Killed in Action (KIA).
There is a discrepency on the 401st Bomb Group Association Website (http://401bg.org/Main/History/Members/Details.aspx?ID=674) which records John A. Barett (sic) as taken POW on 8 July 1944.
