Military

Fell out of formation after bombing target at Diepholz, GR on 21 Feb 1944 with trouble in two engines and unable to feather the props in B-17F #42-30280 'Crazy Horse'. Later attacked by FW190 and crashed near Bunschoten, Holland. Evaded until returning to England via Spain by 15 Sep 1944. He was taken all through Holland and Belgium by members of the Resistance, spending two months in an apartment in Liege with a mother and daughter at one point,and where he learned to speak French 'very fast'.
