Object Number - UPL 74147 - Letter from james F Greenwood of the 853rd Bomber Squadron to Cpt. Strain’s family regarding the events on January 17, 1945.

Greenwood had flown on 29 missions and was briefing officer for the Group's first raid on Berlin. On discovering that one of the gunners scheduled for the raid had scrubbed he took his place. When they landed back at the base the Colonel drove up in his jeep and told him that the mission wouldn't count! Greenwood put in for his return home and 'no objections were raised'.
