Harold Eugene Kirby

Military

Kirby apprently completed two tours with the 91st at Bassingbourn and was sometime pilot of 'General Ike'.



30 December 1943 on takeoff for mission to chemical works at Ludwigshaven when #3 engine caught fire 2/3 of the way down the runway then #1 engine caught fire. Pilot Ammann crash-landed at Steeple Morten a/f. 10 RTD



He stayed in the service and flew high altitude U2 missions over Russia, being in the same squadron as Gary Powers. He was later president of the Southern Manufacturing Co. in Atlanta, GA and was reported deceased in May 1995
