George R Hill
MilitaryHead of 67th Radio Maintenance Shop.
Hill recalled the two secondments the 44th made to N.Africa in the summer of 1943. On the first, to Benina Main, they were simply dropped off in the desert at night 'dark as the inside of your hat' and no sign of life anywhere. On the second trip, this time to an airfield in Tunis,
they came across a cache of liquor in an abandoned German supply dump.
The CO ordered them to get rid of it within 24 hours 'none of us had any trouble obeying his orders.'.
