Francis B Moll
MilitaryI flew as a tail gunner on 21 combat missions over Germany and Occupied Europe. Most memorable mission was #15 in Oct. 1943 to Munster, Germany. We were flying #4 position and we lost our two wing planes 5th & 6th positions and I watched and sall all 10 people come out of each plane. We were also hit but completed our bomb run and all alone, we dropped our bombs on Munster. Fought our way all the way back to England. We came across the channel with only 1 engine running. Prepared for ditching but never had too. We landed at a B-24 base the lst base we came to on our route to Great Ashfield. My pilot Avery J. Ink (Captain) put me in to receive the DFC after this mission and I was awarded the same by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt for my part in getting us back.
