Shot downon 16-Aug-44 in B-17G 44-6126 while serving as Left Waist Gunner. Aircraft was attacked by fighters setting the bomb bay on fire which caused the aircraft to explode and break in two. Aircraft crashed at Teistungen, Germany Killed in Action (KIA).

Originally buried by the Germans in the cemetery at Breitenbach, Germany. After the war his remains were recovered and re-interred for a time at the Lorriane American Cemetery and then repatriated to Long Beach, California.
