NARA file verified Air Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster. Without personnel records it is unknown how many campaigns he participated in regarding the EAME Campaign Medal but it was at least one. Also, more than likely he received a Good Conduct Medal during his service.
Clayton H. Surber was my grandfather. He died in '75 when I was just 3 years old. I was told my my father that he had taken some flak in the back, but I'm not sure which mission. His grave stone has on it, "Coming in on a wing and a prayer."
