Chreighton R Houpt
MilitaryCrashed into high ground at Mill Hill on 11 October 1944, while ferrying B-24 Liberator 42-52003 from BAD 2 at Burtonwood to Hardwick, after experiencing bad weather. Houpt was wounded in action, suffering a broken jaw. He managed to extract himself from the wreck of the aircraft and reached the road from Hayfield to Glossop. Houpt and Najvar were picked up by a lorry driver who took him to a local pub, where they telephoned Burtonwood to report the accident and was retrieved by Ambulance.
