Blair H Rossow
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Blair enlisted in the Air Corps September 26 1942 but didn't have much luck training as he was shunted around all over the country. At one, point on a train cross country for 10 days, with no heat and very little food he caught pneumonia. Eventually trained as a gunner he flew over in May 1944 to join the Group at Mendlesham where he was to take part in 32 missions. He recalled 'we rarely came back to base with all four engines intact. Most of the time we were limping home on two due to flak and weather was an obstacle as much as flak and German fighters...' He was discharged in September 1945 and afterwards worked for 31 years as a lineman with the Iowa Public Service Company.
