Shot down by enemy fighter (the German J-726 report says “by Flak”) on a bomber escort/sweep mission to Bordeaux 21 March 1944. Wing and fuselage damaged. Exploded on reaching the ground. According to the German report, it crashed 0,3km NE of Bourg-Blanc, 10km North of Brest. In his Escape report, Pilot William C. Hawkins mentions “crashed Lambézellec”, which is 15km N of Brest. The crash location must thus be between Bourg-Blanc and Lambézellec, Finistère Department, France. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 3438. Hawkins evaded capture (EVD).
